Where is Taveuni located? How big is it? (Click here to see the map fo Taveuni) Taveuni is the third-largest island after Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Taveuni is about 42 km long and an average of 10 or 11 km wide, and covers 435 sq km. Interestingly, Uluigalau, the highest point in Taveuni, is also located directly on the 180th meridian (the International Date Line). The date line used to run right down the middle of Taveuni allowing you to have one foot in today and one in tomorrow, or one in yesterday depending on your perspective. The marker can still be seen on the beach near Waiyevo.Back to top

When is the best time to go? What is the weather like? The rainier and more humid summer months in Fiji tend to be January, February and begin to taper off in March. As you know in the tropics, the weather is hard to predict. Even during these months, however, there is still plenty of sunshine followed by periods of rain showers. April through December is always very nice with lower temperatures and less rain. Below is a tool that will give you the current conditions in Fiji as well as all you could ever want to know about the weather there:Back to top

What is there to do on Taveuni?

There are plenty of activities to enjoy on Taveuni - kayaking, mountain biking, paddle boats, snorkeling and diving.

Bouma Waterfalls is about a 30 minute taxi ride from the house and a 10 minute walk from the main road - they shouldn't be missed! Just ask our caretaker to arrange any of these outings for you.

There is a general store just a short walk from the house that sells a full array of foods, island clothing and just about anything you might need. In addition, the town of Somosomo - just a short taxi ride away - has a bakery, bank, post office and several other larger shops. On your way, be sure to stop at the International Date Line, where prior to an 1879 ordinance placing all of the Fiji Islands west of the date line, you could stand with one foot in yesterday and the other in today!

There are no rental car agencies on the island because you won't need one! Taxis are available and can be arranged for you as needed.Back to top
